About Me!

I first picked up a camera at the age of 13 and have pretty much carried one since that day. Two years of shooting the high school yearbook and I knew what I wanted to do. So doing the sensible thing I went to University to study physics, as you do.

After Graduation I did a number of different jobs including working for Scottish Natural Heritage in their Image Library whilst building up stock images. After spending a year travelling and building up my stock of images I returned to the UK and have been working successfully as a freelance photographer for the last couple of years. Companies that I have worked for have included North Yorkshire Forum, The Learning and Skills Council, YORKTEST and Brackenhill Design to name a few.

In my work I use a variety of different camera equipment depending on the job. For press, PR and sports I use a digital Canon EOS 1D Mark II. The Mark II is a superb camera although the same cannot be said for the canon software. Images from the Mark II are slightly cool for my tastes but are easily sorted with a custom tone curve. I also have the film equivalent of the Mark II in the EOS 1V which I use for personal work as well as for B+W.

Lenses that I use are all Canon "L" Series lenses such as the 17-35mm,24-70mm and the 70-200mm. All are the f2.8 versions as often I am shooting in low light or need to freeze motion. Generally speaking I find the "L" series lenses a lot tougher which for me is necessary as I am quite hard on gear.

I am based in York, England giving me good access to the major roads and the North of England. Manchester airport is only an hour and a half away. I am fully digital in that I can shoot, edit and send my pictures from the site if time is of the essence. I can supply images in a variety of formats including CD, e-mail, FTP, prints and of course slides and negatives. I have worked for a variety of different clients including papers, magazines and on commission. I also do have a collection of stock images from various regions of the world.

I am able to produce exceptional results even if the circumstances are not ideal and can add a new creative twist to give you images that will stand out from the crowd.
